On Asymptotic Properties of the Parameters of Differentiated Product Demand and Supply Systems When Demographically-Categorized Purchasing Pattern Data are Available

In this paper, we derive asymptotic theorems for the Petrin (2002) extension of the Berry, Levinsohn, and Pakes (BLP, 1995) framework to estimate demand-supply models with micro moments. The micro moments contain the information relating the consumer demographics to the characteristics of the products they purchase. With additional assumptions, the extended estimator is shown to be CAN and more efficient than the BLP estimator. We discuss the conditions under which these asymptotic theorems hold for the random coefficient logit model. We implement extensive simulation studies and confirm the benefit of the micro moments in estimating the random coefficient logit model.

Possible evolutionary origins of human female sexual fluidity

I propose an evolutionary theory of human female sexual fluidity and argue that women may have been evolutionarily designed to be sexually fluid in order to allow them to have sex with their cowives in polygynous marriage and thus reduce conflict and tension inherent in such marriage. In addition to providing an extensive definition and operationalization of the concept of sexual fluidity and specifying its ultimate function for women, the proposed theory can potentially solve several theoretical and empirical puzzles in evolutionary psychology and sex research. Analyses of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) confirm the theory's predictions that: (i) women (but not men) who experience increased levels of sexual fluidity have a larger number of children (suggesting that female sexual fluidity, if heritable, may be evolutionarily selected); (ii) women (but not men) who experience marriage or parenthood early in adult life subsequently experience increased levels of sexual fluidity; and (iii) sexual fluidity is significantly positively correlated with known markers of unrestricted sexual orientation among women whereas it is significantly negatively correlated with such markers among men

Hydrogelation of cyclic peptide amphiphile, colistin, through formation of hierarchically organized structure

Colistin (Col) is an cationic amphiphilic molecule having a cyclic peptide moiety as a hydrophilic group. Because of such a unique molecular architecture, self-assembled structure of Col should be much different from that of a linear amphiphilic peptide. Especially, effect of pH on self-assembly in aqueous Col solution is interesting because inter- and intra-ring interactions of Col should be affected with pH change. Thus, in this study, we investigated self-assembly of Col in aqueous solution with various pH by using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) with synchrotron light source.
